New Delhi: The BJP High Command has summoned all party MLAs from Manipur, along with MLAs from NDA alliance partners, to Delhi for urgent consultations, fueling fresh political speculation in the state. The directive, issued on January 31, instructs all MLAs to be present in the national capital before 2 PM on February 2, although many MLAs are expected to depart on February 1.
This move comes at a critical juncture, as Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 2025, with the state assembly suspended. With the one-year anniversary of President’s Rule approaching on February 12, the timing of the meeting raises questions about potential political realignments, governance decisions, and the future roadmap for the state.
Instructions to Reach Delhi by 2 PM
While the BJP’s central leadership has not officially disclosed the meeting’s agenda, the summons has fueled speculation about potential political realignments, governance decisions, and a roadmap for the state’s future. According to sources, the message was conveyed through BJP state president A. Sharda Devi, while BJP’s Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra personally contacted the MLAs, instructing them to reach Delhi by 2 PM on February 2.
Important Decisions Likely to be Discussed
Political analysts suggest that the timing of the consultations is crucial, given the prolonged administrative and political uncertainty in Manipur. MLAs and party functionaries are closely monitoring developments in Delhi, hoping that important decisions affecting the state will be discussed.
President’s Rule Imposed on February 3, 2025
According to sources, a last-ditch effort is being made to form a government in the state before the end of President’s Rule on February 13. Reports suggest that a new government could be formed in Manipur within a week. It is worth noting that President’s rule has been in effect in Manipur since February 13, 2025, following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on February 12, 2025.
