Raja and Sonam got married in Indore on 11 May 2025. On 23 May, just 12 days after their marriage, they reached Cherrapunji in Meghalaya for their honeymoon. But this honeymoon trip was part of a well-planned murder conspiracy. Sonam, along with her lover Raj Kushwaha, had planned to kill Raja. Three contract killers Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kurmi were also involved in this conspiracy. On 2 June, Raja’s body was found in a deep ditch near a waterfall in Mawkdok area of ​​Cherrapunji.

Raja’s jewellery, purse and mobile were removed to give the murder a colour of robbery. After this case came to light, Shillong police initially started their investigation considering it a case of robbery. Raja’s call details were scrutinised, but no clue was found. But as soon as the police started investigating Sonam’s call details, the needle of suspicion started turning towards her. Such important clues were found from her call details that the whole case was solved. Sonam was continuously talking on the number of Raj Kushwaha of Indore.

Meghalaya police claimed that there was a love affair between Sonam and Raj. She wanted to marry him. But due to family pressure, she had to marry Raja. After marriage, Sonam started working on a conspiracy to eliminate Raja. On May 21, all the accused came to Guwahati. After this, they followed Sonam to Shillong on May 22. The crime was committed on May 23. After this, Sonam left Guwahati for Indore by train on May 23. She reached Indore on May 25 and met Raj there.

Raj Kushwaha made her stay in a rented room in Indore for a day, then a driver dropped her in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. After the murder, Sonam and Raj were constantly talking to each other. Sonam and Raj did not take any photo of themselves after coming to Shillong nor did they upload it. But Sonam posted it from Raja’s account after the murder, which brought him under suspicion. After the murder at 2.15 pm, she wrote on social media, “Saat Janmon Ka Saath Hai.” Suspicion had turned into belief.

Meghalaya police came to know on 3rd and 4th June itself that Sonam was involved in the murder. Police arrested Raj Kushwaha from Indore. Vishal alias Vicky Thakur, who was involved in the conspiracy, was caught from Indore, while Akash Rajput was arrested from Lalitpur in UP, and Anand was nabbed from Bina in Madhya Pradesh. After this, Sonam surrendered in Ghazipur. At first, she kept fabricating a false story of kidnapping. But Shillong police foiled Sonam’s plan.
Shillong police took all the accused to Meghalaya on transit remand. When Sonam was questioned there, she first pretended to be ignorant. Police asked, “Why did you get Raja killed?” Sonam first remained silent and then said, “I did not get any murder done, I was kidnapped.” But when the police showed CCTV footage and proof of her presence with the contract killers, Sonam broke down. She confessed while crying, “Yes, I know these three and I got Raja killed.”

The police brought Sonam and her lover Raj face to face. The police have strong evidence against the accused. Sonam’s blood-soaked jacket found from the crime scene, CCTV footage with the hired killers and Sonam being in touch with her mother-in-law before and after the murder, all these evidences expose their conspiracy. Apart from this, a local guide had seen three suspects with Raja and Sonam. He had revealed that three people were constantly moving around Raja and Sonam.

Police investigation has revealed that Sonam left Shillong on 23rd May. On 25th May, she reached Indore by train via Siliguri. She met her lover Raj in Indore. But after this, she was found in Ghazipur. But how did Sonam reach Ghazipur from Indore, the police is trying to connect the dots. Initial investigation has revealed that someone close to Sonam dropped her at Ghazipur. That too by car, but who was that person? Till now the police is shooting arrows in the dark.

The police claim that very soon the whole case will become crystal clear. On Wednesday, all the accused were presented in the court. The court has sent all the accused on eight-day police remand. During the remand, the police will interrogate all the accused. They will make the accused reveal each and every secret. Not only this, the crime scene will be recreated with the accused, so that the links of the murder can be connected. The entire focus of the police will be on matching the information received from the accused with the evidence collected in the investigation.

On the other hand, it is also coming to light that Meghalaya Police may bring Sonam to her hometown Indore in the next few days under ‘Operation Honeymoon’. Police claim that this heinous murder was planned here. Indore’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotia said, “We have received information that Sonam came to Indore from Meghalaya (after killing Raja). She stayed in a rented flat in the city’s Dewas Naka area between 25 and 27 May. There is a possibility that Meghalaya Police is going to bring her to Indore.”
