New Delhi: The Congress party has targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing the Bihar elections. Party leader Jairam Ramesh said on Thursday that rising unemployment in the country has become a serious concern, but instead of addressing the problem, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is always in election mode and busy crafting new rhetoric to divert public attention.
Ramesh, who is in charge of the Congress’s communications department, said that the past 11 years of misrule have affected every section of society. He said, “Students, youth, farmers, laborers, employees, shopkeepers, businessmen; no one is happy with this government. Inflation is at its peak, and the value of the rupee is continuously falling.” He alleged that the gap between the rich and the poor is widening, making life difficult for poor and middle-class families.
“In this context, rising unemployment has become a serious concern,” Ramesh said. Citing a recent report by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), he said that the country’s unemployment rate rose to 7.5 percent in October 2025, the highest level in the last six months.
Referring to the report, Ramesh said, “Millions of people have lost their jobs in many sectors, including construction and IT-banking. More than 9 million people lost their jobs in the construction sector alone, while salaried jobs declined by 2.5 million.” He further said that similar worrying figures have been emerging every year for the last 11 years. The Congress General Secretary alleged, “Yet Modiji has no concern for the youth of the country. He is always in election mode and instead of solving the problem of unemployment, he is busy making new statements to divert the public’s attention.”
