Satyendra Jain’s troubles increased, President gave approval to prosecute

New Delhi: The troubles of senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendra Jain have increased. President Draupadi Murmu has approved the file sent demanding prosecution against Satyendra Jain.

The Home Ministry had requested permission to prosecute 60-year-old Jain under Section 218 of the Indian Civil Security Code. PTI had quoted sources as saying that the ministry had made this request to President Draupadi Murmu on the basis of ED investigation and the presence of ‘sufficient evidence’.

The central investigating agency registered a case against former Health Minister Satyendra Jain on charges of money laundering related to hawala deals and arrested him in May 2022. Jain is currently out of jail on bail and the ED has filed a chargesheet against him.

The money laundering case is linked to an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in August 2017 against Jain and others for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. The CBI had filed a chargesheet in December 2018 stating that the alleged disproportionate assets were worth Rs 1.47 crore, which was nearly 217 per cent more than Jain’s known sources of income during 2015-17.
