New Delhi: Glorious and historic news has emerged from Ayodhya, the city of Lord Rama. Here, a rare heritage artifact—which had been sought for a long time—has finally been discovered for the International Ramkatha Museum. Under the ‘Manuscript Conservation Yajna’ campaign, a nearly 300-year-old handwritten manuscript of the Ramcharitmanas—an extraordinary symbol of devotion to Lord Rama—has now come to light.
Jagjit Singh, a resident of Amethi living in the Kumarganj area, had carefully preserved this invaluable manuscript for years. He has submitted a formal request to have it preserved within the museum. It is reported that this manuscript is handwritten in the Devanagari script and is considered to be of immense significance due to its antiquity. Taking the matter seriously, the museum administration has initiated an examination to verify the manuscript’s authenticity and historical significance.
According to the museum’s Director, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, the manuscript will be officially inducted into the collection only after a thorough investigation and study. Notably, the Ramkatha Museum has been designated as a ‘Repository Center’ under the guidance of Nripendra Misra—Chairman of the Prime Ministers’ Museum in New Delhi and a Trustee of the Ram Temple Trust. As part of this initiative, a special campaign is being conducted to collect ancient and handwritten manuscripts from across the country.
According to experts, this manuscript holds immense significance not only from a religious perspective but also for linguistic and historical studies. It is expected to provide new insights into the structure of the ancient Devanagari script, the formation of characters, and the writing style prevalent during that era. The writing style of that period differed significantly from modern Devanagari, a distinction that renders this heritage artifact even more unique. This rare manuscript, discovered in the city of Rama, serves not merely as a symbol of faith but also as a living testament to India’s rich cultural heritage. Should its authenticity be conclusively established, this discovery will be etched in golden letters within the annals of history.
