
New Delhi: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das will be the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shaktikanta Das retired in December last year after serving as RBI Governor for 6 years. A few months after retirement, he is now going to get a big responsibility.
At present, Pramod Kumar Mishra (PK Mishra) is the Chief Secretary of the PM. Along with him, Shaktikanta Das will also be seen in the role of Chief Secretary. Shaktikanta Das is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1980 batch.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) said that Das’ appointment will be along with the tenure of the Prime Minister or till further orders, whichever is earlier. The ACC order states that he will work as the Prime Minister’s personal secretary along with Dr. PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister-1.
Shaktikanta Das was the RBI chief for six years from December 2018. He has extensive experience in various fields of governance spanning over four decades. He has held important positions in the central and state governments in the areas of finance, taxation, industry, infrastructure, etc.
