Shiv Sena Shinde faction stronger than BJP in Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, two VBA corporators offer support

Desk. The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi was contesting the Maharashtra municipal elections in alliance with the Congress. However, two elected VBA corporators from the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation have now joined the Shiv Sena Shinde faction, strengthening the Shinde faction’s position in the municipal body.

This 78-member municipal body is located in Thane district. The BJP and Shiv Sena, both constituents of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, contested the elections separately. The BJP won 37 seats, while the Shiv Sena won 36. Furthermore, the Congress, a local organization, and an independent candidate also won one seat each. However, with the support of the VBA, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena has overtaken the BJP in terms of control of the municipal body.

According to sources, VBA corporators Surekha Sonawane and Vikas Kharat met Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday and offered their support. Eknath Shinde’s son, Shrikant Shinde, was also present. Several Shiv Sena leaders, including MLA Dr. Balaji Kinikar, former Mayor Sunil Chaudhary, and spokesperson Rahul Londhe, were present at the meeting.

Sonawane and Kharat stated that their decision was made to ensure the overall development of their wards and to implement work under the Dalit Basti Sudhar Yojana.
