
New Delhi. Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who raised the flag of India in space, has returned to his country. His plane landed at Delhi’s IGI Airport late on Sunday night. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, ISRO scientists, a group of students and a large number of people gave him a grand welcome. Shubhanshu’s wife Kamna Shukla and son were also present with him.
As soon as Shubhanshu arrived, Chief Minister Rekha and Minister Jitendra gave him a bouquet of flowers and welcomed him on his arrival in India. During this, the people present there raised Bharat Mata ki Jai and clapped. The atmosphere outside the airport was also very energetic. People gave a grand welcome to Shubhanshu with the tricolor in their hands.
Shubhanshu will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming days and will go to his hometown Lucknow. He will participate in the program organized in Delhi on the occasion of National Space Day on 22-23 August.

Posting on social media platform X, Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh wrote, ‘A proud moment came for India’s space program when Gaganyaan Mission astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla reached Delhi this morning. He was welcomed at Delhi airport by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan and a group of students. On this occasion, the country’s space pride was honored under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This arrival has reflected the achievements in the Indian space program and new milestones in the country’s space journey.’
Shubhanshu Shukla returned to India after waving the flag in space
Shubhanshu Shukla has recently returned from space travel. During his mission, he spent 18 days in space and conducted more than 60 scientific experiments and 20 awareness sessions.
For the Axiom-4 mission, Shubhanshu underwent a year of rigorous training in America. On 25 June 2025, he left for space via SpaceX’s Dragon capsule from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The next day, on 26 June, he reached the International Space Station (ISS), where he was accompanied by American astronauts Peggy Whitson, Slavos Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary.
What experiments did Shubhanshu do in space?
Shubhanshu worked on seven important experiments especially keeping in mind the needs of India. These included very important topics like germination of green gram and fenugreek seeds in space, study of the effect of space on the body, muscle weakness and brain-computer interface.
These experiments will not only give a new direction to India’s scientific research, but will also make important contributions in the field of agriculture, human health and technological development in space in the future. This mission of Shubhanshu has filled Indian youth with enthusiasm and inspiration towards space science.
