Snowfall alert in 3 districts including Chamoli of Uttarakhand, search underway for 22 workers buried under 6 feet of snow

New Delhi. A snowy dance of devastation was seen in Uttarakhand. 57 workers were buried in snow due to avalanche on Friday morning. Out of these, 33 workers have been evacuated, while 22 workers are still buried. The rescued workers have been taken to the army camp in nearby Mana village, where the condition of four is said to be critical. As soon as the weather clears, the injured will be airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh. The team is engaged in relief and rescue.


At the same time, the Uttarakhand Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for rain and snowfall in three districts. In this, a warning of snowfall and rain has been issued in Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag till Saturday morning. Along with this, people have been appealed to take precautions. On the other hand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will reach the spot on Saturday and take stock of the situation.

Due to bad weather, heavy snowfall and inaccessible terrain, rescue teams are facing a lot of difficulties. From the central government to the state government, everyone is keeping a close watch on this accident. In fact, in North India, from Uttarakhand to Himachal Pradesh and from Himachal Pradesh to Jammu and Kashmir, the weather suddenly changed. Such a change in the weather in February is very surprising, because on one hand people were feeling hot in February and on the other hand, heavy snowfall started suddenly. The weather started changing in Uttarakhand from 26 February and within just two days, a devastating snowstorm came.

The incident happened three kilometers away from Badrinath
55 workers were buried in snow due to avalanche at 7:15 am on Friday in Chamoli. The workers were in 8 containers and a shed. The incident happened in Mana village of Chamoli, 3 kilometers away from Badrinath. Here, the team of Border Road Organization i.e. BRO was engaged in removing snow on the Chamoli-Badrinath highway. The workers were with the BRO team.

Disaster Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman told Aaj Tak on the phone that the situation in the area of ​​the incident has improved a little. 55 people were present at the time of the avalanche. Two workers were on leave, out of which 33 have been rescued, the search for the other 22 workers is on.

NDRF, ITBP and Army also engaged in rescue
According to the army, as soon as the information about the incident was received, more than 100 soldiers of the Quick Response Team immediately engaged in rescue. This also includes doctors, ambulance staff. As soon as the snowstorm hit Chamoli, the central government also immediately came on alert. Union Home Minister Amit Shah took cognizance of the matter. Teams of NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, ARMY and BRO are engaged in the rescue of the workers. But due to heavy snowfall, there are difficulties in the rescue operation. Due to the highway being covered with snow, the road is closed and the NDRF is facing difficulties in reaching the spot.

Most of the workers are from Punjab, UP, Haryana. Helicopter and drone teams have also been kept on alert. Due to bad weather, there are difficulties in the rescue operation. Here, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in Uttarakhand till late night of 28 February. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be up to 20 cm of rain during this period. The rescue team took out the workers from the damaged containers. Where the accident happened, there is snow up to the waist.
