Sundar Pichai announced layoffs in Google

New Delhi: There is going to be a large scale layoff in Google. Google CEO Sundar Pichai himself announced this. He said that the company will cut 10 percent of the jobs in managerial roles and directors including Vice President positions.

The tech company has also eliminated other positions. Google is doing this layoff due to increasing competition from AI. According to a Google spokesperson, some of the 10 percent jobs have been shifted to individual contributor roles, while some roles have been eliminated.

This layoff in Google has been done due to AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence (AI) competitors such as OpenAI. Which is bringing new products, which can affect Google’s search engine business.

In response to competition from OpenAI, Google has added generative AI features to its core business. It has launched several new AI features, including a new AI video generator to compete with OpenAI’s early testing and a new set of Gemini models, including a “reasoning” model that reflects its thought process.

According to Sundar Pichai, Google has made changes in the last few years to make the company efficient and simplify its structure. In the last two years, Google has taken several steps to increase efficiency. As part of this change, Google will cut the positions of managers, directors and vice presidents.

Earlier in September 2022, Pichai had said that he wanted Google to become 20 percent more efficient. After this, 12,000 jobs were cut in Google in January.

According to a CNBC report, in May this year, Google cut 200 jobs from its “core team” and shifted some jobs overseas while cutting costs. About 50 jobs were cut from the engineering team in California.
