New Delhi: Opposition parties have criticized the attack on Chief Justice of India BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi said on Monday that the attack on Chief Justice BR Gavai was not only an attack on him, but also on the Constitution. In a statement, Sonia Gandhi said, “No words are enough to condemn the attack on the Honourable Chief Justice of India in the Supreme Court. This is an attack not only on him, but also on our Constitution. Chief Justice Gavai has been very kind, but the entire nation should stand in solidarity with him with deep pain and outrage.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the attack on the CJI, calling it shameful. He said that this senseless act shows the extent to which hatred and bigotry are prevalent in society. In a social media post, Kharge wrote, “This is shameful and disgusting.” This is an attack on the dignity of our judiciary and the rule of law. It represents an attempt to intimidate and humiliate a person who has broken social barriers to defend the Constitution. On behalf of the Congress party, I strongly condemn this attack. The safety of our judiciary is paramount. Justice and reason must prevail, not threats.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan strongly condemned the incident, calling it a reflection of the hatred being spread by the Sangh Parivar. Calling it dangerous, Vijayan said that dismissing it as an individual act would ignore the growing climate of intolerance. When communal bigotry dares to target even the CJI, it exposes the grave danger of this divisive and toxic politics, which must be confronted without hesitation.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar on Monday strongly condemned the alleged attempt to attack Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai during a court proceeding, saying it was not only an attack on the judiciary but also a grave insult to the Constitution. He said, “The judiciary is meant to uphold the values of democracy and the Constitution. An attempt to attack the Chief Justice of India in the highest institution of justice (the Supreme Court) is not only an attack on the judiciary but also a grave insult to our democracy, our Constitution, and our nation.”

During a hearing in the Supreme Court on Monday, a lawyer attempted to throw shoes at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai. In a dramatic turn of events, Rakesh Kishore made an unsuccessful attempt to throw shoes. When he tried to proceed towards the dais, security personnel immediately swung into action and escorted him out of the courtroom. As the lawyer was being escorted away, he was heard saying, “We will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan.” He was reportedly unhappy with the CJI’s recent remarks on the restoration of the idol of Lord Vishnu.
