Tourist Plane Crashes Near Peru’s Nazca Lines, All 13 On Board Killed; Investigation Underway

New Delhi: A devastating plane crash in Peru’s Nazca region claimed the lives of all 13 people on board after a tourist aircraft went down in a field during a sightseeing flight. The victims died on the spot, according to local authorities.

The Nazca municipal administration confirmed the tragedy through an official statement on Facebook, stating that the aircraft was carrying tourists on an aerial tour of the world-famous Nazca Lines when the accident occurred.

The Nazca Lines, one of Peru’s most iconic archaeological wonders, are enormous geoglyphs carved into the desert by ancient civilizations. Depicting animals, plants and geometric shapes, the figures are best viewed from the air, making sightseeing flights a major tourist attraction.

Aircraft Operated by Aerodiana

Officials said the aircraft had taken off from the nearby city of Ica and was operated by the private Peruvian airline Aerodiana. According to the company’s website, Aerodiana has been conducting scenic flights over the Nazca Lines for the past 14 years using Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft.

Probe Ordered Into Crash

Peru’s civil aviation authorities have launched a high-level investigation to determine the cause of the crash. A specialized team has reached the accident site and begun examining the wreckage.

Aerodiana has not yet issued an official statement on the incident. Meanwhile, local authorities are working to identify the victims and inform their families as the investigation continues.
