New Delhi. To end the Ukraine war, US President Donald Trump is going to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. Experts say that this conversation can be decisive about ending the war. At the same time, it can also prove to be a big opportunity for Donald Trump regarding the change in US foreign policy. Donald Trump informed the journalists about this while going from Florida to Washington on Sunday evening aboard ‘Air Force One’.
Ukraine’s three conditions
At the same time, Ukraine has laid down three conditions even before the talks. Ukraine says that it is not ready to give any concessions related to the border. It will not talk about it. The second condition is that Putin’s words will not be accepted for international organizations, especially NATO. Apart from this, no advice will be accepted by Putin regarding defense capability.
Trump said, ‘We will see if we have anything to announce by Tuesday. I will talk to President Putin on Tuesday.’ He said, ‘A lot of work has been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can end this war.’ On the other hand, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Monday morning that the two leaders planned to talk on Tuesday, but refused to give detailed information, saying that ‘we do not say anything before the events and the subject matter of the conversation between the two presidents is not the subject of any prior discussion.’
European allies are concerned about Trump’s softness towards Putin and his tough stance towards Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. There was also a heated argument between Zelensky and Donald Trump during the talks in the Oval House. Zelensky left the Oval House without eating and he also canceled all future programs. Russia attacked Ukraine about three years ago.
Trump said land and power plants are part of the talks to end the war. He said, ‘We will talk about land. We will talk about power plants.’ Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff recently visited Moscow to take the talks forward. Russia has illegally occupied four regions of Ukraine after launching an invasion of Ukraine in 2022. These include the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the east and the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions in the southeast of the country – but it does not fully control any of the four.
Last year Putin listed the withdrawal of Kiev’s troops from all four regions as one of the demands for peace. In 2014, Russia also annexed Crimea from Ukraine. In the occupied part of the Zaporizhia region, Moscow controls the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant – the largest in Europe. The United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency has frequently expressed concern about the plant amid fears of a potential nuclear disaster. Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he would go ahead with his plan to impose tariffs on April 2 despite recent stock market turmoil and concerns about the economic impact.
