Under car scanner worth Rs 1 crore will be installed at the residence of Bhagwant Mann, know why it was needed to be installed?

Chandigarh. An under car scanner will soon be installed at the official residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh. It is also known as Under Vehicle Surveillance System (UVSS). According to high-level sources, keeping security in mind, it has been decided to adopt this technology, tenders will be issued for it soon. The cost of this state-of-the-art scanner can range from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore, which will put a heavy burden on the government treasury.

Decision taken due to security
This decision has been taken in view of the movement of vehicles and increasing security threats at the Chief Minister’s residence. A senior Punjab Police official said that at present the vehicles are checked manually with a hand-held under vehicle search mirror. Big items can be easily caught, but small and dangerous items can be missed, due to which there is a possibility of a security breach. To avoid this problem, it has been decided to install state-of-the-art scanners.

Budget will come from Police Modernization Fund
Although the Punjab government is facing a financial crisis, budget will be allocated for this scanner from the Police Modernization Fund. The state government had made a provision of Rs 426 crore last year to modernize the police infrastructure, which includes renovation of police stations, police lines and other security facilities.

Scanner will not be installed in Punjab Secretariat
Earlier, the installation of such a scanner was also being considered in the Punjab Secretariat, but it has been postponed due to the narrow width of the road.

Former DGP supported the decision
Former Director General of Police (DGP) Shashikant justified this decision in a conversation with Aaj Tak and said that this is a good decision. Modern security equipment is being installed in all important government establishments, these state-of-the-art machines can help in averting potential security threats.

Scanners are already installed at many VVIP places
Let us tell you that Under Vehicle Surveillance System (UVSS) has already been installed at the Prime Minister’s residence and other important establishments. Now the Punjab government is also preparing to strengthen its security structure on the same lines.
