
New Delhi: In the last few years, online gaming apps and websites have grown rapidly in the country. Transactions worth thousands of crores of rupees take place here every day, but the Government of India has now prepared to rein in it. The Government of India has introduced the Online Gaming Bill. This bill has been passed in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told why the Government of India needed to bring this bill?
Ashwini Vaishnav said that online gaming has emerged as a big sector in digital technology. It is a growing sector. There are three segments of online gaming. E-sports, online social gaming and online money gaming. Out of these three segments, two segments i.e. two-thirds of the industry, e-sports and online social gaming will be promoted through this bill. The name of the bill is Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming.
He said that the segment of online money gaming is harmful. The thinking behind this is that gaming in India. Game making and the intersection of creative and technology have a huge talent base. That is why we should make India a game making hub. Online social games that are for education or for recreation or for mind relaxation should be promoted. But a serious loss has been seen in the society due to online money gaming.
He said that the youth is getting addicted to it. The middle class loses all their earnings. One after the other such incidents are coming to the fore in which a family member is committing suicide. Recently a case came to light in which an 8-year-old child committed suicide. He further said that MPs or MLAs from every state of the country demand strict action against it. The Lok Sabha Speaker had also said that he is ready for an 18-hour debate on this issue, because people also come to him with such issues.
