UN’s entry amid India-Pakistan tension, Secretary General Guterres called Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Pak PM Shahbaz

New Delhi. The terrorist attack on 22 April in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir has created a stir all over the world. After this attack, the relations between India and Pakistan have reached the abyss. In such a situation, United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres spoke to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and India’s Foreign Minister Jaishankar over the phone.

United Nations Secretary General Guterres strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack and emphasized the importance of justice and accountability in the case. He discussed with Shahbaz Sharif and Jaishankar over the phone and emphasized on ensuring accountability for these attacks through legal means.

Guterres’ spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the Secretary-General spoke to India’s Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on separate phones. The Secretary-General again strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April.

Guterres expressed deep concern over the growing tension between India and Pakistan and stressed that it is necessary to avoid any confrontational situation, as it can have serious consequences. He expressed his willingness to help in any effort to reduce this current tension.

After this conversation, Foreign Minister Jaishankar posted on social media that he spoke to UN Secretary-General Guterres on the phone. He condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which we appreciate. There was consensus on the importance of fixing accountability in this incident. India is committed that the conspirators, supporters and culprits of this attack will be brought to justice.

During the conversation with the UN Secretary-General, Shahbaz Sharif rejected the allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack. Along with this, Sharif requested the UN to play a role in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif also said in a social media post that he had a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Guterres this evening. We condemn terrorism in every form and reject India’s baseless allegations and demand an impartial investigation into the Pahalgam incident.
