UP: Under-Construction Bridge Collapses in Hamirpur Amidst Severe Storm; 6 Laborers Dead, Many Trapped in Debris

Lucknow: Late at night in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP), a large section of an under-construction bridge spanning the Betwa River suddenly collapsed during a severe storm. The very bridge being built to facilitate public movement tragically became the cause of people’s deaths. So far, six laborers have lost their lives in this accident, and it is feared that several others remain trapped beneath the debris.

The local administration and rescue teams have reached the site. A large-scale rescue operation is currently underway to extricate those trapped under the rubble. With many people still stuck in the debris, the death toll is feared to rise.

A new bridge was being constructed in Hamirpur to connect the Mora Kandhar and Kurara areas. Late at night, a sudden and severe storm swept through the region. During this time, a massive slab of the under-construction bridge suddenly crumbled and collapsed like a house of cards.

CM Yogi Reacts to the Tragedy

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate cognizance of the bridge collapse incident in Hamirpur. He expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the accident. CM Yogi directed senior officials to rush to the site immediately and to expedite relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister also issued instructions to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, provide appropriate compensation to the families of the deceased, and extend every possible assistance.

Bridge Collapse Reported in Bhagalpur, Bihar, as Well

It is worth noting that a bridge collapse was also reported in Bhagalpur, Bihar, some time ago. In that incident, a section of the Vikramshila Bridge, built over the Ganges River, suddenly snapped and plunged into the river below. However, officials present at the scene took swift action to evacuate people from the area. Consequently, neither any fatalities nor any injuries were reported in that accident. Meanwhile, on May 1, a pillar of an under-construction bridge also collapsed in the Bantlab area of ​​Jammu district. Several laborers lost their lives in this accident, and many others sustained serious injuries.
