US: American Leaders Question Donald Trump’s Mental Health, Suggest President Is in a State of ‘Insanity’

April 06, 2026

Washington: American leaders have expressed deep concern over a statement made by Donald Trump, in which he used abusive language while threatening Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Trump warned of attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure and bridges. On his social media platform, ‘Truth Social,’ he wrote: “Tuesday will be Power Plant and Bridge Day in Iran… Open the Strait of Hormuz, or you will live in hell.” In this post, Trump employed derogatory language toward Iran—expressions not typically expected from a head of state.

This waterway is one of the world’s most critical oil and gas supply routes; it has remained largely closed since late February, following the commencement of a conflict against Iran by the US and Israel—a situation that has driven global oil prices to record highs. Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran over the Strait of Hormuz and has issued an ultimatum demanding the reopening of this maritime route. He has also expressed frustration with European and NATO allies for failing to assist the US in reopening the strait. Trump went so far as to warn that the United States might withdraw from NATO.

  • Chuck Schumer, a member of the US Senate and a senior leader of the Democratic Party, dismissed Donald Trump’s statement regarding Iran as “the ravings of an unhinged individual.” He argued that Trump’s behavior is alienating America’s allies. He characterized the US President’s recent remarks as tantamount to threatening a war crime. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former ally of Trump, also sharply criticized his statement, asserting that the President is in a state of “insanity.” She appealed to members of the US administration to intervene. Taylor Greene stated that this conflict was initiated without provocation and is resulting in the loss of innocent lives. Labeling Trump’s statement as “dangerous and mentally unstable,” U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders asserted that the U.S. Congress must intervene immediately and put an end to this war. Meanwhile, Senator Chris Murphy stated that if he were a member of the Cabinet, he would consider invoking the 25th Amendment (the process for removing a President from office). He characterized Trump’s statement as indicative of a “completely unhinged” state of mind and warned that it could lead to even greater loss of life and property.

Iran, too, hit back at Donald Trump’s statement. Responding to the remarks, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, warned that the U.S. President’s “reckless actions” would engulf the entire region in flames. Mehdi Tabatabaei, the Deputy Chief for Communications at the Iranian Presidential Office, stated that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened only after the country receives compensation for the damages incurred during the war. He described Trump’s comments as an undignified outburst born of frustration and anger.
