Uttarakhand: Cloudburst wreaks havoc in Dehradun’s famous tourist spot Sahastradhara, many people missing

Dehradun. Heavy rains led to a cloudburst at night in the famous Sahastradhara of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. The rescue and relief operation of the district administration is underway. Some shops were washed away in this incident. The district administration had shifted the people living nearby to safer places at night itself. Two people are reported to be missing, whose search is on.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, District Magistrate Savin Bansal took charge. He coordinated with various departments and sent rescue teams to the spot at night itself. Rescue operations are underway by SDRF, NDRF and Public Works Department with JCB and other equipment. The district administration is in alert mode in view of the disaster.

DM announced holiday
On the instructions of the District Magistrate, SDM Kumkum Joshi reached the spot at night itself. In view of heavy rains, the District Magistrate has declared holiday in all schools from class 1 to 12 in Dehradun. Many vehicles were seen floating on the road like toys due to the water coming from heavy rains in IT Park Dehradun since late night.

Rescue started immediately
As soon as the information of the incident was received, SDRF and NDRF teams immediately reached the spot. The rescue team took the local people to safe places. Heavy equipment including JCB has been deployed for relief and rescue work. The search for the two missing persons is going on on a war footing.

A bridge has been damaged near Fun Valley and Uttarakhand Dental College on Dehradun-Haridwar National Highway. Tamsa river is in spate due to heavy rains in Dehradun. 1-2 feet of debris has accumulated in Tapkeshwar Mahadev Shivling complex and there has been a lot of damage in the temple complex.

Loss of lakhs, mishap averted
Many shops on the river bank were completely washed away due to strong currents, causing losses worth lakhs. Due to prompt action by the administration and timely movement of people to safe places, a major mishap was averted.
