February 23, 2026

New Delhi: India has issued new guidelines for Indian citizens living in Iran. According to reports, an advisory issued on Monday, February 23, urged all Indian citizens in Iran to leave the country using any available means of transport. This advice comes amid growing fears of war in the Middle East and escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington. According to the Indian Embassy in Tehran, the new advisory was issued “in view of the evolving situation in Iran.”

The advisory states, “The advisory dated January 14, 2026 reiterates that all Indian citizens and PIOs should exercise caution, avoid visiting places of protests or demonstrations, remain in touch with the Indian Embassy in Iran, and monitor local media for any developments.”

    Two Rounds of Talks Completed
The US and Iran recently held two rounds of indirect talks in Oman and Switzerland. Amid ongoing tensions between the two countries, an Omani minister confirmed on Sunday that the next round of talks will be held in Geneva on Thursday, February 26.

    Student-led Protests Begin in Iran
India’s new advisory comes as student-led protests continued at some universities in Iran for a second day on Sunday, while Tehran and Washington are negotiating a nuclear deal. Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi, confirmed that the next round of talks will take place later this week, on Thursday, February 26, in Geneva.

However, just days before Oman’s confirmation, US President Donald Trump warned Iran to reach an agreement with the United States within 10-15 days. Trump said, “Either we’ll make a deal, or it’ll be bad for them… 10-15 days will be enough.”
