What kind of relations does it want with India, Jaishankar asked Bangladesh a direct question

New Delhi. The Government of India is now seen getting strict against Bangladesh. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has made it clear that the neighboring country will have to tell what kind of relations it wants with India. The special thing is that this comment has come at a time when the Indian Foreign Minister met his Bangladeshi counterpart in Muscat. He also raised the issue of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.

According to media reports, Jaishankar said, ‘It is nonsense for someone to stand up every day in the interim government and blame India for everything. On one hand you say that I want good relations with you, but I will wake up every morning and blame you for every wrong thing. You cannot do this. This is a decision they have to take.’

He has also raised the issue of attacks on minorities. He said, ‘The attacks on minorities in Bangladesh naturally affect our thinking. This is something that we have to speak about. We have already spoken. The other aspect is that they are doing politics. However, in the end both countries are neighbours of each other.’

He said, ‘They have to decide what kind of relationship they want with us. We have a long history with Bangladesh. Our history with Bangladesh is very special. It is from 1971.’

Earlier on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, while responding to a question on anti-India remarks by advisers in the interim government and what impact it would have on India’s behaviour, said, ‘Yes, we have clearly taken note of such remarks which are certainly not helpful. It is up to the persons concerned to consider the implications for their particular domain.
