Xi Jinping Set to Visit India for BRICS Summit After 7 Years; Modi Meeting in Focus

New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit India to attend the upcoming BRICS Summit, marking his return to the country after nearly seven years. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Beijing is expected to make an official announcement regarding his visit.

According to reports, Xi could arrive in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon. A meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is potentially scheduled for around 6 PM at Bharat Mandapam, where the BRICS summit will be held.

Modi-Xi Bilateral Meeting Likely
A bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Xi Jinping is also expected to take place during the summit. If confirmed, the meeting would be significant for India-China relations and would mark the first bilateral meeting between the two leaders on Indian soil in nearly seven years.

It would also be the first such Modi-Xi meeting in India since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, which severely strained relations between the two countries. The two leaders are expected to discuss key issues concerning bilateral ties, regional developments and efforts to stabilize relations between India and China.

India to Host 18th BRICS Summit on September 12–13
India is set to host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. India holds the BRICS presidency this year, with the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

The summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries to discuss major global and regional developments and ways to strengthen cooperation. Key areas of discussion are expected to include political and security cooperation, economic and financial collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges.

The 2026 summit also carries special significance as it marks 20 years since the founding of BRICS, adding further importance to India’s presidency and the gathering of leaders in New Delhi.
