‘Ya Allah’: Emotional Scenes as Community Members Dismantle Part of Ujjain’s Shahi Masjid

Ujjain: Emotional scenes were witnessed in Ujjain as members of the Muslim community themselves dismantled a section of the Shahi Masjid and its attached mesh during an ongoing operation at the site. Videos from the spot show people removing parts of the structure while repeatedly saying, “Ya Allah,” and praying for the mosque to be saved. One man is heard saying that the same hands that helped build the mosque were now being forced to dismantle it. He also appealed for the concrete slab, or lintel, to be removed immediately.

Mosque Committee Carrying Out Dismantling: Police
Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma said the dismantling work is being carried out by the mosque committee itself. He said people from different communities and sections of society have been cooperating with the administration in their respective areas. A security cordon has been placed around the site as a precaution, and entry into the area has been restricted. According to the SP, some people attempted to disrupt the situation and resorted to stone-pelting. Police used tear gas and mild force to disperse the crowd. Some police personnel reportedly suffered minor injuries. The area is being monitored through CCTV cameras and drones.

10 Detained, Police Probe Social Media Rumours
Police have detained 10 people so far. Five are allegedly being questioned over the spread of rumours on social media, while another five, who are not residents of Ujjain, were detained while allegedly attempting to enter the city. Police said those involved in stone-pelting would be identified using CCTV and drone footage, after which FIRs would be registered.

Collector Says Community Is Relocating Religious Site
Ujjain District Collector Roshan Kumar said preparations for Simhastha 2028 are progressing rapidly, with a large number of devotees expected to visit the city from across India and abroad. The Collector said members of the community are themselves undertaking the relocation of the religious site located at Kshatriya Chowk. He appealed to people not to believe rumours or unverified information. Police said the situation is currently under control and that the mosque committee is continuing with the necessary action at the site.
