New Delhi. The capital Delhi is currently facing a severe flood crisis. The water level of Yamuna is flowing above the danger mark and its effect is directly visible on administrative and general life. The situation has become so serious that flood water has reached the Delhi Secretariat, while the relief camps built in Mayur Vihar Phase-1 have also been submerged. Swami Narayan Temple, footover bridge and Civil Lines area are also flooded. Bungalows here are also flooded.
On the other hand, a part of the flyover near Alipur on NH-44 collapsed, in which a vehicle got stuck and the driver got injured. With water entering the Secretariat, relief camps and roads, it is clear that the capital Delhi is currently facing the wrath of floods and people are facing a big challenge of movement along with safety.
Yamuna water has reached near Delhi Secretariat. Water is filling up in the underpass of Delhi Secretariat adjacent to Yamuna flood plain, for which suction pipes have also been installed to remove it, but at present it seems to be filled with water. Along with this, due to the rising water level of Yamuna river, some parts of Kashmiri Gate area have been flooded. Pictures taken from drones show that the water level of Yamuna is continuously rising. Kashmiri Gate bus terminal has been submerged.
According to the information, till early Wednesday, the water level of Yamuna remained stable at 207.47 meters. From 2 am to 6 am, there was neither increase nor decrease in the water level. However, the danger mark is 205.33 meters, above which the river is currently flowing.
Situation worsened at ITO intersection
The most trouble is being seen at ITO intersection in Delhi. Let us tell you that on Wednesday, the road leading to Rajghat was closed by the administration as a precaution. Traffic was completely affected due to waterlogging on the road here. There is chaos due to waterlogging outside government offices located near the ring road. Sewage water is spreading directly on the roads due to lack of drainage. In such a situation, people coming and going are facing huge problems.
Flyover collapsed on NH-44
The effect of rain is also visible on the roads and infrastructure of Delhi. The flyover built near Alipur on NH-44 collapsed. A three-wheeler got stuck in the accident and its driver was injured. Despite the accident, the movement of vehicles passing through there did not stop. Local people say that the soil under the flyover is continuously eroding and if the traffic is not stopped in time, a major accident can happen.
Relief camps also submerged
The situation became worse when the camps built for relief also started submerging in water. Water has entered many relief camps set up near Mayur Vihar Phase-1. The people living here are now facing double trouble – on one hand, being displaced from their homes and on the other hand, not getting a safe place even in relief camps.
Danger near Delhi Secretariat
In a video, it was seen that the underpass of Delhi Secretariat is filling up with water rapidly. The water coming from here is moving directly towards the Secretariat premises, which has raised questions about security. The administration has claimed that constant monitoring is being done and other steps including traffic diversion will be taken if needed.
At present the water level is stable, but if the rain continues, the water level of the river may increase further. This may worsen the situation in low-lying areas of Delhi. The traffic system has collapsed due to waterlogging, while people are facing problems in government offices, residential colonies and markets.
The water level of Yamuna is currently above the danger mark. Waterlogging has affected life in many parts of Delhi. The situation remains serious from ITO intersection to Alipur flyover and Mayur Vihar. Questions are also being raised on the preparation of the administration due to water entering the relief camps. If the rain continues in the coming days, the situation can become even more dire.
