89 Special Trains to Run in Three Days… Indian Railways Makes Big Announcement Amidst IndiGo Crisis

December 07, 2025

New Delhi: Amidst the increasing passenger rush during the winter season and IndiGo flight cancellations, Indian Railways has announced a major relief for passengers by launching 89 special train services over the next three days. These additional trains will run on more than 100 busy routes. According to the railways, this step has been taken to ensure smooth transportation amidst winter holidays, weather-related disruptions, and increased pressure on air travel. The railways has appealed to passengers to check the latest train schedule and availability on the official website and NTES app before their journey.

Railway officials said that the special trains will run in almost all major zones of the country, where the crowd has increased by up to double compared to normal days. Several zones, including Central, Western, Eastern, South Eastern, Northern, and South Central Railways, have prioritized passenger convenience by arranging additional rakes and coaches.

Central Railway has decided to run the highest number of 14 additional trains. These include popular routes such as Pune-Bengaluru, Pune-Hazrat Nizamuddin, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Madgaon, LTT-Lucknow, and Nagpur-CSMT. Special services will also be available between Gorakhpur-LTT and Bilaspur-LTT. Additional services will run from December 6 to 12. South Eastern Railway has run trains on the Santragachi-Yelahanka, Howrah-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and Cherlapalli-Shalimar routes between December 6 and 9. These routes are usually considered to be more crowded during festivals and holidays.

South Central Railway has started three additional trains between Cherlapalli-Shalimar, Secunderabad-Chennai Egmore, and Hyderabad-LTT. Eastern Railway has scheduled special services on the Howrah-New Delhi and Sealdah-LTT routes, which will provide relief to passengers traveling to North India. These trains will run on scheduled dates between December 6 and 9.

Western Railway has included superfast trains such as Mumbai Central-Bhiwani, Mumbai Central-Shakur Basti, and Bandra Terminus-Durgapura. Passenger traffic on these routes had been steadily increasing since last week. Special trains will be available from Gorakhpur to Anand Vihar and LTT from December 7 to 9.
