Ecuador: Ecuador’s President narrowly escapes deadly attack, convoy shot at

Quito. Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has been attacked. Around 500 protesters attacked President Noboa’s convoy and pelted it with stones. Fortunately, President Noboa was uninjured and is safe. Ecuadorian Government Minister Ines Manzano said in an official statement that an attack on the president has been reported and a case has been filed under charges of attempted murder. She added that shots were fired at the car. Police currently have five suspects in custody.

Case filed against accused under terrorism charges
The President’s Office stated that all the accused will face charges of terrorism and conspiracy to murder. The attack on President Noboa occurred during a protest organized by the National Indigenous Civic Union, which has been protesting for the past two weeks. The protesters are opposing the government’s decision to reduce diesel subsidies. They say this decision will most impact small farmers and indigenous civil society. President Noboa’s convoy was attacked during a union protest.

The President’s Appeal to the People: Avoid Violence
On the same day, 77 kilometers from the site where President Daniel Noboa’s convoy was attacked, President Noboa addressed a student event. He appealed to the people not to engage in violent incidents. Regarding the attack on him, he said that such incidents will not be tolerated in the new Ecuador and everyone will face the law.
