BJP leader’s statement on Zohran Mamdani’s victory, saying, “We won’t allow any Khan to become Mumbai’s mayor.”

Mumbai. While Muslims worldwide are rejoicing over the election of Indian-American Muslim youth Zohran Mamdani as mayor, and his victory is being celebrated in many parts of the world, including the United States, it has also had an impact in India. Amit Satam, Mumbai president of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has categorically stated that he cannot allow any Khan to become Mumbai’s mayor. By “Khan,” he is referring to any Muslim.

Satam, BJP MLA from Andheri West, said, “We will not allow any Khan to become mayor.” Calling it “vote jihad,” he said that an attempt is being made to bring the same kind of politics to Mumbai as seen in New York City. When asked what he meant, the BJP leader said, “Some people are resorting to appeasement to maintain political power. It is important to protect Mumbai from forces that have previously tried to divide society.”

Believes in religious harmony
Speaking to the media, Satam said that he believes in religious harmony, but if anyone tries to divide society by adopting an anti-national stance, we will oppose it. Elections are scheduled for Mumbai, i.e., the BMC, soon. Zohran Mamdani, son of Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Indian-origin scholar Mahmood Mamdani, has won the New York mayoral election. He defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo, a scandal-ridden Democratic candidate who ran as an independent, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

We cannot allow Mumbai’s cultural identity to be changed.
The Mumbai BJP chief echoed the voices of Mamdani’s critics worldwide, saying, “We will always stand for Mumbai’s development and unity. Vande Mataram programs are being organized across the city. Every citizen has the right to say this with pride. Any attempt to change the city’s social and cultural identity will not be acceptable.”
