New Delhi: Amidst growing concerns over low attendance in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a stern warning to Members of Parliament (MPs) to take their responsibilities seriously. The Prime Minister’s statement comes at a time when the Budget Session of Parliament is witnessing not only legislative work but also political discussions and a firm stance from the top leadership.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister delivered a strong message to MPs at the NDA parliamentary party meeting held in the Parliament complex. He said that elected representatives are chosen not only to raise public issues but also to spend more time in Parliament. Advising the MPs, Modi said, “You have to sit in Parliament and resolve the issues of the people, not waste time in the cafeteria.”
In an interesting development, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu met at the entrance of Parliament House. Naidu was waiting for his car on the steps when Kharge raised the issue of restoring flight services at Kalaburagi airport in Karnataka. Raising the issue, Kharge asked the minister, “When will the services be restored?” Naidu assured him that the services would be restored soon, but Kharge sought clarification from the minister regarding a specific timeframe.
This incident clearly demonstrates that the opposition is not missing any opportunity to corner the government on regional issues, especially those that are important to the public. Prime Minister Modi’s warning is an attempt to motivate MPs to be more active in Parliament so that they can work more for the people and ensure the smooth functioning of the House.
