No Cutting of Kalava, No Removal of Mangalsutra… UP Police Recruitment Board Takes Major Decision; Find Out How the Exam Will Be Conducted

June 01, 2026

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board has taken a significant decision regarding the Constable Recruitment Examination this time—a move that has brought a sigh of relief to the hundreds of thousands of married women and other candidates appearing for the exam. Often, images surface during examinations showing Kalavas (sacred threads) being cut or Mangalsutras (sacred necklaces) being forcibly removed in the name of strict security protocols, subjecting candidates to considerable mental distress. However, this will not happen this time around. The Recruitment Board has clarified that there will be no ban on wearing religious symbols—such as Kalavas or Mangalsutras—at the examination centers, and they will not be forcibly removed during security checks.

  • ‘Digital’ Vigilance Over Smart Gadgets
The examination is scheduled to commence on June 8. While upholding respect for religious sentiments within the examination centers, the Board has simultaneously ensured that there is absolutely no compromise on the integrity and security of the examination process. To rein in the “cheating mafia” this time, security agencies have adopted even more high-tech measures. The Board has issued specific directives to maintain strict vigilance over “smart meta-glasses,” electronic pens, and other concealed smart gadgets. The strictness of the protocols will be such that even the staff and teachers deployed for examination duty will not be permitted to carry their mobile phones inside the center. Furthermore, with security in mind, the examination centers will remain under constant CCTV surveillance.

    2.8 Million Candidates, 75 Districts, and a Mega-Examination
This is set to be one of the largest examinations ever conducted in Uttar Pradesh. In this upcoming Constable Recruitment Examination—scheduled to take place between June 8 and June 10—over 2.8 million candidates from across the state will try their luck for 32,679 available posts. To ensure the transparent and peaceful conduct of the examination, a total of 1,183 examination centers have been established across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, where robust security arrangements will be in place.
