A day earlier, on Tuesday, Airtel had told that it has partnered with SpaceX, after which Indian customers will soon get high speed internet of Starlink. However, SpaceX is yet to get the license from the Indian authorities, SpaceX’s service will be able to start in India only after getting all the approvals.
Starlink is a satellite-based high-speed internet service developed by Elon Musk’s own company SpaceX. It does not require the installation of mobile towers. Starlink wants to provide high-speed internet worldwide, especially in areas where wire broadband is not available.

Reliance Jio Group CEO Mathew Omen said, “It is Jio’s priority that every Indian has access to affordable and high-speed broadband. Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and is a big step towards uninterrupted broadband connectivity for all. With Starlink in Jio’s broadband ecosystem, we are expanding our reach and increasing the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband in this AI-driven era, empowering communities and businesses across the country.” SpaceX also made a statement about Jio
SpaceX President and Chief Operations Officer Gwynne Shotwell said, we appreciate Jio for advancing India’s connectivity. We are ready to work with Jio, obtain permission from the Government of India and provide access to Starlink’s high-speed internet services to Indian customers and businesses.
This is how Starlink works
There are thousands of low-earth orbit satellites in the sky, which are about 550 km above the earth. These satellites connect to each other with the help of laser link and transmit data rapidly. This service is called Starlink.
Dish and router are needed
To use Starlink’s service, a small dish has to be installed, which is also called Starlink terminal. The customer has to get it set up at home. This dish receives and sends signals from the satellite present in the sky. After this, this dish connects to the WiFi router, which is installed inside the house.
This is how India will benefit from Starlink
If we look at the way Starlink works, it can improve internet connectivity in India. Its benefits will be seen in rural and remote areas.
There are still many villages and hilly areas in India where fiber internet has not reached, in such a situation they can benefit from Starlink. Schools and hospitals located in remote areas will be able to benefit a lot from this.
