New Delhi: The Indian team won the Ranchi ODI against South Africa by 17 runs on Sunday (November 30). The second match of the ODI series is scheduled to be played between the two teams in Raipur on December 3. Ahead of the Raipur ODI, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has taken a major decision. A crucial meeting is scheduled to be held in Raipur on Wednesday between BCCI officials and the men’s team management. The purpose of this meeting is to develop a roadmap for the team across all formats and address issues related to team selection and communication.
According to a SportsStar report, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, Joint Secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, Team India Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar will be present at the meeting. It is unclear whether BCCI President Mithun Manhas will be present.
Since the meeting has been called on the same day as the second ODI, senior players will not be attending. This meeting assumes significance amid growing questions within the team, poor performance in Test cricket, and concerns about the team management’s relationship with senior players.
A senior BCCI official stated that the meeting’s purpose is to bring the team management and selectors together to ensure consistency in selection and clear avenues for player development. The official admitted that the board has been concerned by the confusing strategies on and off the field during recent Test matches. He said, “There were several instances during the home Test season where the strategy was unclear. There is still time for the next Test series, so we want clarity and planning now.”
