
Vrindavan: Following a tragic accident in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh—where a boat filled with devotees capsized in the Yamuna River, resulting in 10 fatalities—the vessel, which had become stuck in the deep waters, was finally retrieved after five hours of tireless efforts. Chaos and distress have prevailed in the area since the accident occurred. As can be seen in the accompanying images, the motorboat—trapped in the deep waters—was successfully extracted during a search and rescue operation that continued well past midnight. Meanwhile, rescue operations remain underway to locate the five other individuals who are still missing. The bodies of all the deceased have undergone post-mortem examinations and have been sent to their respective destinations.
Seven Members of the Same Family Among the 10 Deceased
It is reported that among the 10 people who lost their lives in the accident, seven belonged to the same family. An announcement has been made to provide compensation of ₹200,000 each to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 each to those injured, drawn from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
Boat Found Stuck in Silt
Shailesh Kumar Pandey, DIG of the Agra Range, stated that following the accident in the Yamuna—which claimed 10 lives after the boat capsized—the vessel, having become lodged in the silt at the bottom of the deep river, was successfully retrieved after several hours of arduous effort. He added that the search for the five missing individuals is still ongoing and confirmed that all aspects of the incident are currently under investigation.
5 People Still Missing in the River
It is worth noting that around 2:45 PM on Friday, a motorboat filled with tourists capsized in the Yamuna River near Keshi Ghat—located approximately 2.5 kilometers from the Shri Banke Bihari Temple—after colliding with a pontoon bridge. There were over 30 people on board the boat, all of whom fell into the river. Of these, 10 people drowned and lost their lives, while 22 were successfully rescued. Five individuals remain missing in the river, and the search for them continues. Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh stated that the people aboard the boat were residents of Ludhiana, Punjab.
