What is the FASTag Annual Pass, and who is eligible to purchase it?
The FASTag Annual Pass is intended for vehicle owners who possess a non-commercial vehicle and an active FASTag account.
Under this pass:
– It remains valid for a period of one year or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first.
– It is applicable at toll plazas across all National Highways.
– The pass automatically expires once 200 toll crossings have been completed or one year has elapsed.
– This pass can be purchased via the ‘Rajmargyatra’ mobile app or through the official NHAI website.
Why does the price of the pass increase every year?
Under the National Highways Fees (Determination of Rates and Collection) Amendment Rules, 2025, the government has stipulated that the price of the FASTag Annual Pass shall be revised annually. In accordance with this regulation, a marginal increase has been implemented in the pass price for the 2026-27 financial year.
How many people are currently using the FASTag Annual Pass?
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), more than 5 million (50 lakh) people across the country are currently utilizing the FASTag Annual Pass. Approximately 28 percent of all car toll transactions conducted on National Highways are now processed through this specific pass. Furthermore, since 2016, over 11.86 crore FASTags have been issued. Of these, approximately 5.9 crore FASTags are currently active. More than 98 percent of toll collection on National Highways is conducted through FASTags.
At which toll plazas is the usage of the Annual Pass highest?
At certain toll plazas, the usage of the FASTag Annual Pass is significantly high: Bijwasan Toll Plaza on the Delhi-Gurugram border—approximately 57 percent of cars pass through using a FASTag Annual Pass. Mundka Toll Plaza (UER-II) in Delhi—approximately 53 percent usage. Jhinjholi Toll Plaza (NH-334P)—nearly 53 percent of non-commercial vehicles utilize the FASTag Annual Pass.
At the regional level:
– Chandigarh – 14 percent
– Tamil Nadu – 12.3 percent
– Delhi – 11.5 percent
– From August 15, 2025, to January 2026, over 26.55 crore toll transactions have been recorded using the FASTag Annual Pass.
Is this pass valid at all toll plazas?
– No. This pass is valid only at approximately 1,150 toll plazas located on National Highways and National Expressways. At toll plazas situated on expressways or State Highways operated by State Governments or local bodies, the FASTag Annual Pass will function like a standard FASTag, and the standard toll charges will apply.
Is it mandatory to purchase a FASTag Annual Pass?
– No. The FASTag Annual Pass is entirely optional.
– For users who choose not to purchase a FASTag Annual Pass, the existing FASTag system will continue to operate as before, and they will continue to pay charges on a per-toll-crossing basis.
What happens when the pass expires?
If either of the following conditions is met—completion of 200 trips, or the expiration of the one-year validity period—the FASTag Annual Pass will automatically revert to functioning as a standard FASTag. However, if the limit of 200 trips is reached prior to the expiration of the one-year validity, users have the option to purchase a new FASTag Annual Pass again within the same year. Savings in Both Cost and Time
Despite a nominal increase in the price of the FASTag annual pass, this scheme is rapidly gaining popularity among highway users. This system is not only simplifying toll payments but is also helping regular commuters save on both costs and time.
