Five medicines given to children were found to be substandard, MPMCCL blacklisted 19 medicines.

October 10, 2025

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Medical Corporation Limited has blacklisted 19 medicines so far this year due to poor quality. Five of these medicines were prescribed to children, raising serious concerns about the quality of medicines administered to children in government hospitals. These blacklisted medicines include paracetamol drops, gentamicin injection, thiamine tablets, multivitamin tablets, and ascorbic acid. These medicines are commonly used in children for fever, pain, nutritional deficiencies, and infections.

Paracetamol drops were banned in March 2025 after failing quality tests. Gentamicin injection (40 mg/ml), used to treat eye and bacterial infections, was blacklisted in October 2025. Thiamine tablets IP 100 mg, prescribed to treat vitamin B1 deficiency in children, were removed from the market in January 2025. Multivitamin tablets containing B-complex and vitamin C failed quality tests in May. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C 100 mg), prescribed to boost children’s immunity, was also blacklisted in May 2025.

The Madhya Pradesh Food and Drug Administration has also expanded its quality inspections of medicines for children. This action follows recent reports of adverse drug reactions in children. A Food and Drug Administration official stated that the failed drug samples have been immediately banned. Experts, however, say this situation points to serious flaws in the drug control system. They also questioned the government’s initiative to investigate the companies producing the banned drugs, suggesting that this would prevent irregularities. Let us tell you that after the Chhindwara incident, an intensive investigation campaign is being carried out regarding the quality of medicines.
