Gurugram: A retired Indian Air Force officer and Kargil War veteran was allegedly brutally assaulted with an iron rod at a parking facility in Gurugram, leaving him with a serious head injury and a fractured arm.
Retired Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta, a veteran of the 1999 Kargil War and Operation Safed Sagar, was allegedly attacked at Magnum Global Park after a dispute with parking staff. According to his complaint, he was left lying injured in the parking area, with no immediate assistance from security personnel or other staff.
Parking Dispute Turns Violent
According to Gupta’s complaint, he had gone to Gonzo Restaurant at Magnum Global Park for dinner with his family at around 8 pm on Thursday. When he went to park his car, he allegedly faced repeated directions from parking staff to move between the valet area, basement and multi-level parking facility.
The situation reportedly escalated when Gupta attempted to reverse his vehicle. He alleges that a parking attendant tried to damage the car’s front windshield. When Gupta stepped out and objected, the attendant allegedly attacked him with an iron rod. One blow reportedly struck his head while another hit his arm, causing him to collapse and bleed heavily.
Veteran Lay Injured as Help Allegedly Failed to Arrive
The complaint alleges that security personnel and other parking staff present at the location did not come to Gupta’s assistance. Gupta has further alleged that despite repeated attempts to contact the police helpline, assistance did not arrive for around half an hour. He was eventually helped by a chef, who arranged for him to be taken to a private hospital by ambulance. Doctors later performed surgery to repair his fractured elbow using plates, according to the complaint.
Serious Allegations Over Medical Report
The retired officer has also levelled allegations against the hospital, claiming that the medico-legal case (MLC) report did not accurately record his injuries. According to Gupta, the report allegedly failed to mention the bleeding head injury and the seriousness of the elbow injury. These allegations have not been independently established.
FIR Sought Under Serious Charges
Gupta has submitted a written complaint at the Sector 65 police station in Gurugram, seeking immediate and strict action against the alleged attacker. He has demanded that an FIR be registered under stringent provisions relating to attempt to murder and grievous injury. Gurugram Police have initiated an investigation into the incident. The allegations against the parking attendant and claims regarding the medical report will be subject to the police investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
