
New Delhi: A Hindu temple in Richmond Heights, Ohio, was reportedly targeted in an attack in which unidentified individuals allegedly hurled bricks at the premises, causing significant damage to windows and doors.
According to the Hindu American Foundation, the incident took place at around 1:30 p.m. local time at the Shree Swaminarayan Vadtal Dham Hindu Temple. The organization said bricks were thrown at the temple, resulting in substantial property damage.
Surveillance Footage Under Review
HAF said surveillance footage of the incident is available and is being reviewed by authorities. The organization added that the FBI Civil Rights Unit is being informed about the incident. The foundation said it remains in contact with temple officials and has offered assistance following the attack.
HAF Calls for Investigation
HAF described the incident as a potential hate crime and called for the perpetrators to be identified and apprehended. The organization urged law enforcement agencies to prioritize the investigation.
It also called on elected representatives and government agencies to publicly condemn hate speech and rhetoric targeting Hindu and Indian American communities. The incident reportedly occurred on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, which also marked the beginning of Hindu Heritage Month in Ohio, according to HAF.
