Immediate, Strict Action by Balen Shah Upon Becoming Nepal’s Prime Minister: Former PM Oli and Former Home Minister Arrested

New Delhi. With the formation of a new government in Nepal, the political atmosphere has heated up rapidly. The government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah took a major decision within just 24 hours of assuming office, arresting former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

This action has been taken in connection with the deaths of students during the ‘Gen-Z Movement.’ The investigation had deemed both these leaders responsible for the incidents. It is reported that during the very first cabinet meeting—presided over by Prime Minister Balen Shah—a decision was made to implement the report submitted by the inquiry commission; this strict measure was subsequently taken based on that decision.

According to the report, unarmed students were fired upon during the protests, resulting in the loss of several lives. The government has opted for immediate action to establish accountability in this matter.

According to sources, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was taken into custody early in the morning, followed shortly thereafter by the arrest of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. This move is being viewed as a sign of a major shift in Nepali politics.

The inquiry commission’s report has also raised serious questions regarding the conduct of certain officers within the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and the Army. However, no direct action has been taken against the security forces thus far. The government has decided to constitute a new committee to conduct a separate investigation into their role in this matter.
