New Delhi: The definition of wealth in India is changing every year. Sometimes a billionaire is made from steel, sometimes from the oil and petrochemical industry, while others are increasing their fame through mobile apps or startups. This time, when M3M and Hurun India released their Rich List 2025, the country once again realized that India is no longer solely dependent on traditional businesses. Here, technology, AI, startups, and Bollywood celebrities are also included in the list of billionaires.
68-year-old Mukesh Ambani has once again proved that his wealth is unshakable. With a net worth of ₹9.55 lakh crore, he continues to hold the top spot. The Adani family holds the second spot with ₹8.15 lakh crore. But the real surprise came when HCL Chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra secured a place in the top three for the first time. With a net worth of ₹2.84 lakh crore, she not only became India’s richest woman but also the youngest member of the top 10.
India’s youth also played a significant role in this list. 31-year-old Arvind Srinivas, who founded the AI startup Perplexity, became the youngest billionaire with a net worth of ₹21,190 crore. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Kaivalya Vohra and Aadit Palicha of Zepto demonstrated that age is just a number when an idea is strong.
The most surprising name on India’s Rich List this time came from Bollywood. Bollywood’s King Shah Rukh Khan became a billionaire, with a net worth surpassing $1 billion. Shah Rukh Khan, who has ruled the film industry for 33 years, has become the richest actor not only in India but in the world. Shah Rukh Khan has become a billionaire for the first time with a net worth of ₹12,490 crore.
His entry is proving to be a milestone not only for Bollywood but also for the entertainment industry. 70-year-old Niraj Bajaj and his family increased their wealth by 43%, now standing at ₹2.33 lakh crore. Meanwhile, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma made a resounding return to the billionaires list, thanks to a 124% surge in the company’s shares.
This year, a total of 1,687 people have assets exceeding ₹1,000 crore. 284 newcomers have joined the list. On average, the richest people on the list have earned ₹1,991 crore per day. City-wise, Mumbai has the highest number of rich people in the country, with 451 billionaires, followed by Delhi with 223 and Bengaluru with 116. The pharmaceutical sector leads the list with 137 billionaires. Industrial products (132) and chemicals-petrochemicals (125) again led the way. Real estate also performed strongly this time, creating 99 new billionaires.
Dr. Payal Kanodia, Chairperson of the M3M Foundation, says that real estate is no longer just a business, but has become a symbol of diversification and self-reliance. Meanwhile, Anas Rahman Junid, Founder of Hurun India, believes that the total wealth of India’s billionaires has now reached ₹167 lakh crore, and most of this wealth belongs to first-generation entrepreneurs.
