Jobs are changing in the age of AI: Here’s how to prepare and overcome your fears; skills are more important than degrees

January 25, 2026

New Delhi: Today’s companies are focusing heavily on the use of AI. It has become a part of our daily lives and work. Meanwhile, discussions about jobs have also intensified. While earlier people were worried about losing their jobs, now they are accepting this reality and focusing on how to prepare themselves for this change. Experts believe that India’s success in the age of AI will depend on how quickly our workforce learns and adapts to new skills.

Amidst the rapid changes happening in companies due to AI, India’s workforce stands at a crucial juncture. According to global research, approximately 40 percent of jobs could be affected by automation by 2030. The question, therefore, is not whether AI will change the way we work, but whether employees will be prepared for this change.

  • Focus on Skills
Several major tech companies, including Microsoft India, are consistently saying that simply having a degree will not be enough in the age of AI. What is needed now is the ability to perform tasks (skills). Experts say that India needs to move away from its dependence on degrees and towards skill-based education. Because the nature of work is changing rapidly due to AI, and the ability to adapt will become the most important skill.

Skill Development is the Real Power
Contrary to popular belief, AI will not immediately take away human jobs. It will gradually change the way we work. Jobs that involve repetitive tasks will be more affected. But jobs that involve thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving will not disappear; instead, they will become even better. Regarding this, Dr. Nipun Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, says that learning new skills is very important. When people learn to use AI tools correctly and understand their results, AI ceases to be something to fear and instead makes work easier and faster.
