Major Tragedy in Uttarakhand: Vehicle Plunges into Deep Gorge; 8 Passengers Dead

New Delhi: A tragic road accident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. On the Chamba-Koti road, a vehicle plunged into a 300-meter-deep gorge. Eight passengers died on the spot in the accident, while several others sustained injuries. Upon receiving the information, a team from the police and administration rushed to the scene. The SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) was immediately summoned. Currently, the SDRF team has commenced rescue operations. Due to the extreme depth of the gorge, it is taking time for the SDRF personnel to reach the actual accident site.

It is reported that this tragic accident took place on the Nail-Koti Colony road in the Chamba region. According to available information, a Bolero Camper was traveling from Rishikesh towards Ghansali. Near Nail on the Chamba-Koti route, the Camper suddenly went out of control and plummeted into the gorge. It is estimated that there were approximately 9 to 10 people on board the Camper; of these, eight have died, while two individuals were successfully rescued.

Tehri DM Provides Details on the Accident
The injured passengers have been admitted to the District Hospital in Baurari, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Brijesh Bhatt, the District Disaster Management Officer for Tehri, confirmed the death of eight people in the accident. Tehri District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal stated that a vehicle had fallen into a gorge and confirmed that, so far, reports indicate the death of eight passengers. Teams from the police, the district administration, and the SDRF are currently conducting rescue operations at the site.

CM Dhami Expresses Grief Over the Accident
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also expressed his deep condolences regarding the tragic accident. He wrote on ‘X’: “I have received the deeply distressing news of a vehicle accident on the Nail-Koti Colony road, located within the Chamba area of ​​Tehri Garhwal district. I pray to God to grant eternal peace to the souls of those who lost their lives in this tragedy, and to bestow upon the bereaved families the strength to bear this immense sorrow. I have issued instructions to the district administration to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. I pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
