At Mohan Yadav’s Request, Central Government Raises Wheat Procurement Target to 100 Lakh Tonnes

April 23, 2026

Bhopal: There is good news for the farmers of Madhya Pradesh. Acting on the request of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the Central Government has approved an increase in the wheat procurement limit for the state. Consequently, the target for wheat procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in the state has been raised from 78 lakh metric tonnes to 100 lakh metric tonnes. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had recently urged the Central Government to increase the procurement limit this year—citing the improved wheat production within the state—to ensure that farmers face no difficulties in selling their produce. Responding affirmatively to the Chief Minister’s request, the Central Government has set this new target.

According to government sources, the previously fixed limit of 78 lakh metric tonnes had caused anxiety among a large number of farmers, who feared that their produce might not be purchased at the support price. Now that the target has been raised to 100 lakh metric tonnes, farmers will find relief, and it will be possible to procure a larger quantity of wheat.

  • The State Government asserts that this decision will provide farmers with more opportunities to sell their crops and ensure they receive a fair price for their hard work. Furthermore, this decision is regarded as a significant step toward boosting farmers’ incomes and strengthening the agricultural sector. The State Government has also issued directives to the concerned officials to ensure the procurement process runs smoothly and to prevent any inconvenience to the farmers.

It is worth noting that 19.04 lakh farmers have registered to sell their wheat at the support price this year—an increase of approximately 3 lakh farmers compared to the previous year. So far, 95.17 lakh quintals of wheat have been procured from 2.21 lakh farmers. Of this quantity, 75.57 lakh quintals have already been transported. The government has, to date, disbursed payments totaling ₹1,091.33 crore to 1.06 lakh farmers who sold their wheat.

However, wheat exports have been declining due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Meanwhile, the government has successfully resolved the issue regarding the shortage of gunny bags (sacks) by arranging for jute bags, PP bags, and other alternative packaging materials. The government states that adequate gunny bags are currently available for procurement. In the state, wheat is being procured from farmers at a rate of ₹2,625 per quintal—comprising a support price of ₹2,585 per quintal plus a bonus of ₹40.
