MP will also conduct a SIR survey, with voter lists frozen starting tonight.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is among the states undergoing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) survey, similar to Bihar’s. The Election Commission announced in a press conference on Monday that voter lists will be updated in 12 states and union territories, beginning on October 28th and completing by February 7th. Several states are scheduled for assembly elections next year, while others are scheduled for panchayat and civic body elections in the next one to two years, including Madhya Pradesh.

It is reported that the voter lists will be frozen starting at 12 midnight tonight, after which BLOs will go door-to-door to verify voter information. During this process, suspicious names will be checked and necessary documents will be requested. The Election Commission has announced the implementation of this process in all 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh. Following the Election Commission’s directives, training has been completed across the state for all relevant officials, including BLOs, collectors, ADMs, SDMs, tehsildars, and other staff.

BLOs will now go door-to-door to collect voter information and ensure the necessary forms are filled out. Significantly, BLOs will visit each household up to three times to ensure that no eligible voter is left out. This means that complete information will be collected for every household. Under the SIR process, action will also be taken to remove fake or duplicate names from the voter list in many locations. Officials believe this will make the voter list more transparent and accurate.

Although elections are not currently scheduled in Madhya Pradesh, urban body elections will be held between 2026 and 2027, while the next assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh are scheduled for October-November 2028. Keeping this in mind, the Election Commission has already taken steps to update and ensure the voter list is error-free. Discussions on this matter have already begun. The Sir Survey originated in Bihar, but is now being conducted in almost all major states across the country.

The Sir Survey is a regular process of the Election Commission, which updates the voter list. During this process, new voters aged 18 years or older are added to the voter list. The names of those who have died or moved are removed. Any errors in the name, address, or other information listed on the voter list are also corrected. For this purpose, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) go door-to-door to ensure eligible citizens fill out the necessary forms.
