‘No mediation, only dialogue…’ Shashi Tharoor made India’s intentions clear on Trump’s statement on ceasefire

New Delhi: Team India is on a global mission to expose Pakistan. On Saturday morning, a delegation led by Congress MP and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor left for abroad. This delegation will expose Pakistan’s dark deeds in the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil and Colombia. Before this, Tharoor clarified his stand on India’s role, foreign policy and global diplomacy in a conversation with Aaj Tak. He also commented on US President Donald Trump’s statement on mediation.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has clarified that India’s foreign policy has a tradition of transparency and dialogue, but it would be wrong to call it ‘mediation’. Tharoor said, you know our government’s stand very well. During any crisis, there is always contact with those countries who call and ask for help. But this does not mean that any formal mediation process has taken place. Neither has any such request come, nor has India taken any such initiative.

Tharoor explained by giving an example
Tharoor gave an example and said, if a country calls us, talks to us, and we tell them about our steps, will it be called mediation? I don’t think so. He further added, our foreign minister always shares publicly who contacted him. Whenever any other foreign minister called him, he clarified it through a post on social media. Tharoor is leading one of the seven parliamentary groups, which are being sent to represent India in various countries.

‘India’s stand is clear…’
Tharoor has said that when he is going on a foreign trip, he will present India’s clear and united stand there. He said, it is very important that when the world is looking at India, we all should be on the same page. Tharoor told that the briefing given by the government was also aimed at all the MPs to move forward with a common stand. He said, we are all going with the feeling that we are speaking on behalf of the country.

When asked if the internal differences of Congress will affect his foreign tour, Tharoor clarified that when we are part of an international delegation, we represent the country, not the party. The place for discussion of domestic politics is the Parliament or the country’s platform. Not international meetings.

Shashi Tharoor is leading Group 5. This group will visit America, Panama, Guyana, Brazil and Colombia. This delegation also includes MPs from LJP, JMM, TDP, BJP and Shiv Sena.

US President Donald Trump has claimed to have mediated in the India-Pakistan war. Trump said that America has helped in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and this was possible through trade talks. He said, I do not want to say that I did it, but I helped. However, India has rejected these claims of Trump and clarified that the ceasefire was the result of direct communication between the military officials of the two countries.
