‘SP Rattled by Brahmins Moving Towards BSP’: Mayawati Launches Fresh Attack on Akhilesh Yadav

August 08, 2026

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has stepped up her attack on the Samajwadi Party, accusing it of changing its political narrative for electoral gains and urging people from all sections of society to remain cautious.

In a post on X on Saturday, Mayawati said the BSP is an Ambedkarite party committed to the welfare of every section of society and guided by the principle of “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay”—welfare and happiness for all.

She claimed that her four governments in Uttar Pradesh were run on the same principle, while accusing the SP of pursuing what she described as narrow caste-based politics and electoral self-interest.

‘P in PDA Now Means Pandit?’
Taking aim at the SP’s PDA political formula, Mayawati claimed that the letter “P” originally referred to Pichde (Backward Classes).

She alleged that the SP is now attempting to redefine “P” as Pandit (Brahmin) because it is concerned about Brahmin voters increasingly moving towards the BSP and the party fielding candidates from the community.

  • Mayawati questioned whether this shift was not another example of what she termed the SP’s “political deceit and duplicity.” She further argued that such tactics might provide short-term electoral gains to individuals but cannot ensure the broader welfare of society.

Mayawati Urges Voters to Stay Alert
The BSP chief appealed to people across communities to remain vigilant against what she described as the SP’s “deceptive” politics and narrow caste-based approach. Her remarks come at a time when political activity in Uttar Pradesh is intensifying ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with parties increasingly focusing on caste and community equations.

    Akhilesh’s Brahmin Candidate Move
The political debate has also intensified following SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s decision to name Pawan Pandey as the party’s candidate for the Ayodhya Assembly seat.

The decision to put forward a Brahmin candidate for the strategically significant constituency is being viewed as an attempt by the SP to strengthen its outreach among Brahmin voters and sharpen its electoral contest with the BJP.

Mayawati’s latest remarks indicate that the BSP is closely watching these political shifts and is seeking to position itself as an alternative for voters across caste and community lines ahead of the 2027 polls.
