New Delhi: Tension erupted in the Jwalapur area of Haridwar district in Uttarakhand on Sunday evening when some people allegedly pelted stones at a ‘Shaurya Yatra’ (valor march) organized by the Bajrang Dal. Following the incident, widespread anger spread among Bajrang Dal workers, and several people even arrived at the scene with bulldozers. However, the situation was prevented from escalating due to the swift action of the police and administration.
According to sources, the Bajrang Dal had organized processions from three locations – Jwalapur, Haridwar city, and Kankhal – on Sunday, which were scheduled to converge at Ram Chowk in the evening. As soon as the procession reached Ram Chowk, stone pelting suddenly began. This caused panic among the participants and workers. Upon receiving information about the stone pelting, several teams of Haridwar police, administrative officials, and additional forces reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Following the incident, Bajrang Dal state president Anuj Walia alleged that the law and order situation in Haridwar had completely deteriorated. He said, “Attacks on religious processions are a failure of the administration. The culprits should be given strict punishment.”
FIR filed against unknown persons
Haridwar City SP Abhay Pratap Singh said that the stone pelting has been confirmed and an FIR is being registered against unknown persons in the case. He said that the accused will be identified with the help of video footage and CCTV cameras from the spot, and no culprit will be spared.
Additional police force deployed in the area
The police have deployed additional forces in the area and increased surveillance at sensitive points. After the incident, a tense situation prevailed for some time in the Jwalapur market and surrounding areas, but the situation was brought under control by night. The administration has appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumors and maintain peace.
