New Delhi: Talks on the trade deal between India and the United States have been postponed again. This major update comes at a time when President Donald Trump has issued a new tariff threat regarding Iran and announced a 25% tariff on countries trading with Iran. US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, had said that talks on the trade agreement would resume on Tuesday, January 13, but according to the latest reports, no trade talks are scheduled between India and the US this week.
‘No Talks on Trade Deal Yet…’
According to the report, Indian officials told Informist that no trade talks are scheduled with the US this week. This clarification comes after comments made by US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, on Monday regarding the India-US trade deal. The report, citing an official familiar with the matter, states that the Ministry of Commerce has not received any information from Washington regarding further talks on the trade deal.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “I cannot confirm whether talks will take place this month or not, but nothing is scheduled in the near future, or at least not this week.”
What did the US Ambassador say?
Notably, Sergio Gor had said that both sides are serious about the India-US trade deal and are committed to finalizing the agreement. He also said that India is one of the largest countries in the world, so finalizing such a trade agreement is not easy, but both sides are working towards it. Gor had further stated that the long-standing bilateral trade talks are actively continuing and the next round of official talks was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
