New Delhi. Amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, news of relief has come. A special plane carrying 110 Indian students evacuated from war-torn Iran reached Delhi early Thursday. These students were first transported from Iran to Armenia, from where they were brought to India. Among these students, 90 students are from Jammu and Kashmir, who were mainly studying medicine.
Student Aman Azhar told ANI after landing in Delhi, “I am very happy. I cannot express in words how I feel after meeting my family. The situation in Iran is very bad. The people there are also like us, there are small children who are in trouble. War is not good for anyone. It destroys humanity.”
The families wholeheartedly appreciated this quick action of the Indian government, but at the same time expressed concern for those students who are still trapped in Iran’s war zone, especially Tehran.
Indian Embassy’s advisory to citizens
On June 15, the Indian Embassy issued an advisory appealing Indian citizens and Indian-origin people to avoid unnecessary movement and remain in touch with official channels.
Responding to India’s appeal, Iran has assured safe evacuation through its land routes, as Iranian airspace is currently closed. Students have been advised to exit through neighboring countries like Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
4000 Indian citizens living in Iran
At present, there are more than 4,000 Indian citizens in Iran, about half of whom are students. The Indian government is working with the Iranian authorities to ensure the safe return of other citizens stranded there.
