24-hour rain wreaks havoc in Nepal, airports paralyzed, schools and offices closed, nationwide holiday declared for two days

New Delhi: Heavy rain and landslides have been lashing Nepal since Friday evening, disrupting normal life across the country. Transport has come to a complete standstill. All roads connecting Kathmandu have been closed. The administration has closed all roads for the next three days.

Nepal has been experiencing continuous rain for the past 24 hours, triggering landslides at dozens of locations and blocking national highways, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded. The administration has banned travel to and from Kathmandu for the next three days. The administration has appealed to people to stay indoors and refrain from venturing outside.


Due to the rain, airports across the country have been closed. All internal flights have been suspended for the next two days. Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport is also closed, causing inconvenience to passengers. All domestic airlines have issued flight cancellations until the weather improves. Runways at several airports across the country have been reported flooded.

Meanwhile, the Nepal government has declared a public holiday on Sunday and Monday for safety reasons due to heavy rainfall. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the public holiday is due to flooding in many areas. The government has declared a holiday for all departments except National Disaster Management and hospitals.

Traffic has been completely halted on all river corridors in Kathmandu. Residents in coastal areas are being evacuated due to flooding. The government has advised people to remain vigilant, stay in safe places, and avoid leaving their homes. All helicopter companies have been asked to be on standby. The Army’s night vision helicopter has been kept in readiness at Kathmandu airport.
