New Delhi: The ‘Operation Sindhu’ flight carrying 290 Indian citizens from Iran reached Delhi late on Friday night at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. As soon as they got off the plane, people raised slogans of ‘Long live India’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’. Seeing this scene, many people present there became emotional. They expressed their happiness by hugging each other.
Most of the students who returned to India from Iran were from Jammu and Kashmir. Some students are also from Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka and West Bengal. Most of the returnees are those who had gone to Iran on pilgrimage while many students were studying medicine there.
Out of 290, 190 Indians are from Jammu and Kashmir
A student studying at Tehran University of Medical Sciences said, ‘This journey was full of struggles, but with the help of the Indian Embassy and the Government of India, we were able to return home safely. Our parents were very worried.’
Let us tell you that amid the ongoing war between Iran and Israel, the Indian government had started ‘Operation Sindhu’ so that the Indian citizens trapped in Iran could be brought back safely. Earlier on Thursday also, 110 Indian students were brought to India via Armenia and Doha.
Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary of Passport, Visa and Consular Affairs in the Ministry of External Affairs, said, ‘Out of the 290 citizens who reached India from Iran today, 190 are from Jammu and Kashmir. Iran made this mission possible by allowing the use of its airspace.’
1000 Indian citizens will return home under ‘Operation Sindhu’
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has also expressed gratitude to the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs and all the concerned agencies. The association says that this is a big relief for the families who were worried for a long time for the safe return of their children.
According to the officials, two more flights are going to reach India today, one of which will be from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Under the entire ‘Operation Sindhu’, about 1,000 Indian citizens are being brought back to the country.
Iran gave permission to use airspace
First all the students and pilgrims were brought from Tehran to Mashhad, from where they were sent to India through special flights in coordination with Indian officials. In this entire operation, Iran’s permission to use its airspace proved to be the most important step.
