New Delhi: The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda have signed an initial agreement to end the ongoing violence in eastern Congo. This agreement between the two countries was signed late Wednesday night in Washington DC, America, in which America played an important role. Citing this, President Donald Trump has once again expressed hope for the Nobel Peace Prize.
It is said about President Trump that he does not want to lag behind former President Barack Obama in any category. For example, like Obama, he has become President twice, but he does not have any Nobel Peace Prize to his name. He has been expecting this for a long time. Trump often taunts about this and now after the possible peace deal in Rwanda-Congo, he has taunted once again.
“I will not get a Nobel Peace Prize for this (treaty between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda),” Trump said in a post. “I will not get a Nobel Peace Prize for preventing a war between India and Pakistan, I will not get a Nobel Peace Prize for preventing a war between Serbia and Kosovo,” he said in a post on Truth Social.
“I will not get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping peace between Egypt and Ethiopia, and I will not get a Nobel Peace Prize for making the Abraham Accords in the Middle East, which, if all goes well, will bring even more countries into it, and integrate the Middle East for the first time in “ages”! No, I will not get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do, including with Russia/Ukraine and Israel/Iran, whatever the consequences, but the people know, and that’s what matters to me!”
Rwanda-Congo signed an agreement to establish peace
After three days of talks on political, security and economic matters between Rwanda and Congo in the US, both countries have signed a draft agreement, which may be finalized in the coming days. The draft agreement includes many important points, such as, they will stop using weapons, end non-state armed groups and return refugees and internal migrants home.
Eastern Congo has been battling armed conflict for a long time. Here many armed groups were fighting to gain control over natural resources. Violence between the two flared up further in January this year when the M23 rebel group, believed to be supported by Rwanda, captured the city of Goma. This area is rich in natural resources. A few weeks after this, they also took control of the strategically important city of Bukaru. However, Rwanda has denied supporting these rebels.
Thousands of people have been killed in the conflict so far and lakhs have been displaced. Many parties have also been accused of human rights violations. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump described this agreement as another peace achievement of his and wrote a long post on social media saying that he will not get the Nobel Peace Prize, no matter how much peace he establishes.
